Free Adirondack Chair Plans for Easy Building

Adirondack Chair Plans to Make Simple But Classic Lounge Chairs

free adirondack chair plans

Some of the first woodworking projects I ever took on were from a couple of free Adirondack Chair Plans. What surprised me the most about the whole project was how well it turned out. It looked pretty good.

You may be wondering where the Adirondack chair came from. Well, An Adirondack chair is a type of wooden chair that is used mostly a piece of outdoor furniture. The first chair similar to today’s was a design by Thomas Lee in 1903. On vacation in Westport, New York, he needed a few outdoor chairs for his summer vacation home. His first design was tested by his family.

The first Adirondack chair was made using 11 pieces of wood, which were cut from one board. It had the straight back and seat even then, and the seat and back was set at an angle so you could sit on mountain incline common of the area. It also was built with wide armrests that became a well-known feature of the Adirondack Chair.

The plan I went from was not one of the chair plans you can get from the links below. Plans like those would have made my build a little bit easier and even better to look at and sit in.

The things I like most about Adirondack Chairs are their classic look combined with the fact that they're surprisingly comfortable. The wide backs and wide arm rests give these chairs that classic "big and roomy" look that calls you to sit (and stay) in one.

Adirondack Chairs have backs and seats that are contoured to your body's shape. And although they are made entirely of not-so-soft wood, you can spend a lot of time sitting on one without wanting to get on something with a big soft cushion.

Also, because these chairs do have that classic look, they're perfect on a patio deck or around a pool.

If you'd like to try building these, pick up your adirondack chair plans today. If you don't have any interest in building them yourself, I've got a great source for these chairs (in different styles) ready-made for your patio or deck.
